What is a traineeship?
A traineeship is a flexible education and training programme with work experience that unlocks the great potential of young people, aged 16 to 24, and prepares them for their future careers by helping them to become ‘work ready’.
Every traineeship includes a period of high-quality work experience placement with an employer with associated work preparation training to teach employability skills to support progression into a career or apprenticeship.
You will also work towards English and maths qualifications if needed to give you the necessary skills and qualifications to help secure an apprenticeship or job.
A traineeship has three core elements:
A high quality work experience placement to give important experience in the world of work.
Preparation for work, including help writing a CV and preparing for interviews.
English and maths support, if required, to work towards qualifications valued by employers.
Traineeships are ideal if you want to move into a job or apprenticeship but do not currently have the skills and experience that employers are looking for.
Traineeships are available for anyone who is aged between 16-24 who does not have a qualification at Level 3 (A-level equivalent) or above.
Since a traineeship is a full time programme to support you to get a job you would need to be either unemployed, or work fewer than 16 hours per week and have little work experience, to qualify.
Employers are not required to pay you for doing a traineeship, but may support you with expenses such as transport and meals.
What are the benefits of a traineeship?
